Whad did Hubbard know about the emeter?

You know, I had this thought - Hubbard knew a lot more about the meter than he let on. If you go to just Bill's blog - he has a couple interesting articles about the meter and how it functions. The big point he makes - is that it reads on belief. If you sit there on a juicy withhold, and are worried it will read, it likely will. Another person with the exact same withhold, who doesn't give a god damn about it, it's likely to not read. And Hubbard makes this point as well - it doesn't work on criminals who don't consider their crimes as crimes ( if I recall correctly)

Everybody with some training has heard or read Hubbard say how the meter reads just under the person's awareness. Yet, the different dating drills ( e-meter drills where the coach writes a date on a piece of paper, or uses his birthday) the student auditor, using questions like Was it before 1950? After 1950? In 1950? is to find the hidden date. The date is not hidden, so how exactly is it reading below the person's awareness?

Bill's astute answer - it's reading on belief. You believe in the date you wrote down and the meter is reading on that belief.

So.

If it reads on belief, and Hubbard was certainly smart enough to observe that, why would he say it read otherwise? What value would he have in convincing any and all Scientologists that it read, not on belief, but on reactivity?

That's an interesting question.

Another question, why did he later in life come to believe the opposite? That the reads were valid, and it was not reading on belief?

When did he begin to believe his lies?

Is that the explanation, why he was the consummate con man, doesn't stand up to the reality of what he did in creating Scientology, his spending countless hours tweaking it one way or another?
