Woodstock Author Captures Tragedies In Bestsellers

By Virginia Dean, Standard Correspondent

Part-time local resident Robin Gaby Fisher has been a working journalist for over 30 years. From the slow painful healing process of two young male students critically burned in a dormitory fire to the mass shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut, Fisher has captured some of America’s worst tragedies in the 20th and 21st centuries.

A two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist for feature writing and the New York Times bestselling author of three books, “After the Fire: A True Story of Friendship and Survival,” “The Boys of the Dark: A Story of Betrayal and Redemption in the Deep South” and “The Woman Who Wasn’t There,” Fisher’s narrative journalism conveys a deep respect and compassion for those involved.

In fact, Fisher even writes about those who fabricate their involvement in such tragedies.

Teaming up with filmmaker Angelo J. Guglielmo Jr., for example, Fisher tells the story of Tania Head who lived a lie for years as she pretended to be a survivor of the World Trade Center attacks who lost her husband in the same attack and founded and led the World Trade Center Survivors’ Network until she was eventually exposed as a fraud.

“The story is one of the most audacious and bewildering quests for acclaim in recent memory, one that poses fascinating questions about the essence of morality and the human need for connection at any cost,” according to the GoodReads website.

Currently the director of the Journalism Program at Rutgers University’s Newark campus, Fisher is working on a book for Penguin/Putnam about a woman’s struggle with the Church of Scientology. It will be released next spring.

Only way to find out was to take the tour. Two other sets of “tourists” mingled in the lobby before the bronze bust of Hubbard, front and center, and a wood-paneled display of 15 photographic portraits of the man, its all-caps lettering dubbing it “The L. Ron Hubbard Series.” No one wanted to give me names, for some reason, but the group consisted of three 30-somethings from Cincinnati and two grandmotherly types from Maryland. Before I could ask their motivation for entering the gates of Scientology, we were herded by a fresh-faced docent who resembled Kelly Clarkson, circa Season 1 of “American Idol.” She didn’t give her name and no one felt compelled to ask. She led us beyond a set of double doors to the sanctum sanctorum of all things L. Ron.

It was a finely appointed, museum-quality exhibit: long, well-lit hallways with stage sets depicting scenes from Hubbard’s early life, his swashbuckling early days as a “world traveler” seeking wisdom in the East, his career writing genre fiction (sci-fi, Westerns, adventure) and his time as a Hollywood screenwriter. This last display consisted of a movie marquee with the title in lights, “L. Ron Hubbard’s ‘The Secret of Treasure Island,’ ” which our fresh-faced docent (henceforth referred to as FFD) said “broke all records for all movies at that time, a box-office success.”

Reality check: According to the Internet Movie Database, “The Secret of Treasure Island” was the 210th top-grossing movie of 1938.

OK, so maybe FFD was exaggerating a tad. But a nearby display showing a becapped newsstand vendor standing before row upon row of magazines all featuring the science fiction prose offerings of L. Ron cannot be disputed. The man was so prolific that you wondered whether he suffered from hypergraphia.

“He wrote ‘Battlefield Earth’ in 1982,” FFD said, “to celebrate his 50 years of being an author. To this day, it’s one of the most popular science fiction novels.”

Reality check: According to the website bestsciencefictionbooks.com, “Battlefield Earth” doesn’t crack the top 25 most popular novels, a list that includes people named Asimov, Herbert, Bradbury, LeGuin.

But, really, why be such a factual stickler? Just accept that the tour’s first 15 minutes amounts to a Hubbard hagiography.

It’s what comes after those first 15 minutes that starts to unsettle.

We were led to the wing devoted to “Dianetics,” the 1950 tome that FFD said was “the first book ever written on the mind.”

Reality check: A real whopper, that claim. See: William James and Sigmund Freud’s oeuvres, for instance.

FFD herded us down a hallway, brightly lit and stacked floor to ceiling with copies of “Dianetics” behind glass cases, and into a theater where “I’ll show you a short video …”

Here it comes, the pitch. I’ll spare you a line-by-line dissection, but its point was that “Dianetics” can cure you of “negative thoughts, self-doubts, unreasonable fears” by pointing out that “all your painful experiences are stored in a previously unknown part of the mind, called the reactive mind.” The narrator’s warm baritone clashed with overwrought acting of couples arguing over money, a parent slapping a child, a man either in deep existential anguish or extremely constipated.

Post-video, FFD walked us upstairs and asked us personal questions, such as our professions. Our group had a paralegal, an interior designer, a bank teller and a limo driver. I didn’t lie. I told her “writer,” after which I detected the slightest arch of her right eyebrow. Then she asked, “What have you heard about Scientology?” Silence. Seconds passed. I felt bad for FFD, so I blurted out, “Tom Cruise.” Somehow, she both smiled and frowned.

“Pretty much everything you hear in the media is baloney,” she said with a dismissive hand wave, but no real bitterness. “Scientology actually comes from the word ‘scio,’ which means ‘knowing,’ and ‘ology,’ the ‘study of.’ So it’s the study of knowledge or knowing how to know. It is a religion, but it’s an applied religious philosophy. … Let me show you this. It’s called an Emotional Tone Scale, the first scale to accurately predict human behavior. Come closer. It’s OK.”

FFD proceeded to tick off the 24 attributes of the ETS, waving brochures and what seemed akin to a personality test some gung-ho corporate human resources director might administer. Next up, a contraption called the E-Meter, short for electro-psychometer. It resembled a 1950s gizmo that the paralegal mistook for a lie-detector device. It consisted of a console with a big knob and a glass window holding a needle that whipped around like a windshield wiper. Attached to the console were two cords with metal handholds at the end.

“What it does is show when a person has a thought,” she said. “You hold these and there’s a tiny bit of electricity that goes through you and back into here. It’s used in counseling. The thoughts will affect the needle on the dial. Wanna try?”

One of the women from Maryland was game. She grasped the handholds while FFD twisted the knob. The needle swung deep to the right, then back to resting position. “You had a thought just then, right?” FFD chirped. “Pretty cool, huh?”

I took a turn. As I grasped the metal holds, I felt no jolt of electricity. The needle wasn’t moving, either. FFD twisted the knob, and the needle jumped to a vertical position. I asked her, “What are you doing with the dial?” She said, “Oh, basically calibrating.”

Next came another video, about seven minutes long, concerning marriage and Scientology’s role in fostering a better relationship.

Reality check: How many times has Tom Cruise been married and divorced? (Three.)

In any event, we learned two terms in the video (“overt,” an act you do but wouldn’t want done to you; and “withhold,” keeping such acts to yourself). The warm baritoned narrator intoned that the worst thing you could do is “withholding the overt,” a bemusing way of saying, in essence, Don’t cheat on your spouse and, if you do, don’t keep it to yourself. OK, then.

Finally, after passing through a neon archway saying “The Way to Happiness,” we were back in the lobby and then on the street, a place I was profoundly happy to be.

Church of Scientology has vault hidden in New Mexico

Published 3:56 PM MDT Apr 30, 2016

LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Fifty miles east of Las Vegas New Mexico there are two huge diamonds inside two interlocking circles carved right into the earth. For years, neighbors wondered who owned the buildings and private airport next door.

It turns out county records show it's owned by the Church of Spiritual Technology, an organization affiliated with the Church of Scientology.

The religion was created back in 1953 by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard.

At the entrance to the property there is a gate and a sign that says private property. There is no mention it belongs to the church. Out there two surveillance cameras can be seen.

KOAT reached out to the Scientology Church in New Mexico got an email back with a link to its website.

The site says the property's purpose is to "create and maintain an archive of Scientology scripture for future generations," and they do that by using "more than 135 tons of archival books, stainless steel plates and nickel-plated records, which in turn, are "stored in 2,300 titanium capsules housed in calamity-proof vaults."

The request for an on-camera interview and tour of the vaults were denied. However, a select group of New Mexicans were invited back in the ‘90s.

[SNIP]

It appears crews are adding more to the property, including this structure, which looks like the landscape itself. Again people are curious.

ESCAPE" TRAILER RELEASED: BREAKING FREE OF SCIENTOLOGY

In light of Ron Miscavige's "Ruthless" exposé and impending tell-all interview on ABC 20/20 TONIGHT, RM Productions and Truth Told Productions bring you the trailer for their new short film, "Escape."

Based on the acclaimed memoir "Blown for Good: Behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology," "Escape" adapts the true-life story of former Sea Org members Marc and Claire Headley as they struggle to free themselves from the hands of Scientology.

Current students at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, filmmakers Karla Zamudio and Rachael Meyers say this piece was born thru a class assignment. Every year, each student in the advanced class must make a short film with one condition: it must be about real people in real situations.

Meyers remarks, "The condition means to keep the films grounded in hearty storytelling rather than flying off into GlibLand. Nowhere did it say it had to be an adaptation of someone's life. But when Karla came to me with this story, I couldn't resist running with it."

But it's more than just a good story. Co-Writer (adaptation) and Producer of the film, Karla Zamudio has a personal connection:

"I left Scientology, because it became overbearing and interfered with my personal life, career, and spiritual growth. It had become more about profit and recruiting new members than helping me. When I learned that several of my personal friends who previously worked for Scientology had been mentally and physically abused by the organization and wrote a book about it, I immediately felt compelled to tell their story."

According to his memoir, Marc Headley and his wife Claire spent 15 years inside the Sea Org's International Headquarters, garnering physical and emotional abuse. Only in 2006 with the help of the police and his father was he able to finally escape and later, get his wife out too.

Zamudio recounts her time inside the walls: "I had the privilege of working with Marc a few times at the heavily guarded Scientology compound in Hemet, CA and I can attest to some of the facts he shares in his book. Marc and Claire Headleys' brave story demonstrates how courageous and determined the human spirit thrives under challenging situations."

Meyers: "The Headleys have been so generous in granting permission to their story for this short film. It's an incredibly brave journey. Having the privilege to portray it has definitely given me a new perspective on what stories can be told versus what stories should be told."

Writer/Director/Producer Rachael Meyers founded RM Productions in 2011. Through various projects, she has had the pleasure of working with talent such as Gina Hecht ("Seinfeld"), Rob Brownstein ("Argo"), Elisa Gabrielli ("Madagascar"), and James Kyson ("Heroes"). Her films have garnered awards at festivals across the country, including Best Direction.http://ift.tt/24repFR

Writer/Producer/Actress Karla Zamudio is a former member of the self-proclaimed organized religion, having escaped in 2008. In 2014, she founded her own production company Truth Told Productions: a company focused on telling stories inspired by real life events with characters who thrive under challenging situations. A native of Los Angeles, she is known for roles on shows such as "Southland," "Mistresses," "ER", "The Shield," and "Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment," among others.www.karlazamudio.com

Starring Bryan McKinley, Alexandra Bayless and Mark Gadbois, "Escape" is currently in the festival submissions process.

Scientology Disconnection Caught on Camera

Thankyou Radio Paul, this is a great video.

I posted this on Facebook. You never know, maybe one of my family will actually see it.

Quote:

Some years ago after I had been disconnected from by one of my daughters for speaking out, another family member (never in) asked me to send them info on the subject. There was little around at the time, and certainly nothing that showed how absolute disconnection is. And it is – a giant full stop on any kind of relationship, end of subject. A scientologist then has to find a way to explain to others why they suddenly won’t speak to you. “I just don’t like her” is one, or “we had an argument about my religion” is another. Absolute rubbish when we had previously been really, really close.

But when one speaks out about scientology, the door slams shut. I wish that other family member could watch this video and finally see the truth of it but unfortunately they and most of my family have now blocked me on Facebook due to long term behind the scenes “handlings” and “acceptable truths” ( ie lies and manipulation) all stemming from that original need to explain the disconnection.

It is all so unnecessary and evil. Shattered families mean nothing to scientology, it is par for the course. Put on a big smile and say all is fine and bury the truth and hope your heart does not betray you scientologist. That is hard to do and it takes it’s toll over the years, until you don’t rightly know who you really are and what you feel. But I believe love will win in the end. The truth of this practice is now broadly seeing the light of day and the lies stand out like neon lights, if one is willing to take the blinkers off and see them.

From Geoff

I have been seeing some excellent advertisements by the Church and some sections of the Church appear to be making headway. For example, I am noticing prescription painkillers are starting to get a bad rap, also high profile doctors openly stating they don’t like putting kids on drugs for behaviour patterns. So it seems to me CCHR has been a successful activity for the Church. I believe the Church and CCHR deserve credit for being in the forefront of exposing these activities, as just one example of the good works the Church has been involved in.

But I did see one add proclaiming the achievements of the Church and giving stats such as 1.5 million volunteers, 22 million taught the truth about drugs and 126 million enlightened on their human rights. These are impressive stats!

My reason for bringing this up is for my doubt formula, specifically the 2nd step “2. Examine the statistics of the individual, group, project or organization”. Now I am not in doubt concerning LRH, the Scientology philosophy or Technology, just the way it is being run at the moment by Mr. Miscavige.

I would like to look into these stats for myself and I would assume that somewhere in the world today the Church activities such as those that garnered the above statistics would be happening right now, and this would be a perfect opportunity to do step 2 of the Doubt formula. I am applying the policy HCOPL 16 March 72 “Look don’t Listen”, as LRH says “THE SCENE IS RIGHT BEFORE ONE’S EYES”, this policy is very clear on how to go about investigating a situation, so I am not prepared to just be told this information or read about it, I want to go and see it!

I assume this site is being monitored and I am asking someone to tell me where this expansion is happening. I have also noted that there are other doubters on this blog of Mr Miscavige’s adherence to LRH policy so this information may help handle their considerations also.

I would honestly like to know, please help me on this step of the formula.

From Astra Woodcraft, Please read my daughter's essay to win a 10k Scholarship!

Dear All,
I'm asking for your help to vote for my daughter by the end of the day Sunday May 1st so she can win a 10k scholarship for college.:happydance:
http://ift.tt/24iQisJ

My daughter Kate is off to university this year to major in Applied Mathematics. It's a very exciting time! She entered into a scholarship competition where she could win $10,000 towards college. That would be a HUGE help to us considering how expensive college is these days!

The essay prompt for the scholarship was "Write about a person who inspires you". Kate's essay is about my escape from Scientology and although I know I'm biased I think it's a really good read.

Tony Ortega posted a link on his site a couple of weeks ago and it rocketed Kate into the top ten in the competition! She got over 1000 votes in 24 hours. We were amazed and so grateful for the support!
http://ift.tt/1WpNCqN

If she stays in the top ten through Sunday night she will be in the final round. She is currently number eight. However, people are catching up and it she will fall out of the top ten soon if she doesn't get a lot more votes.

I think people love her essay and she has a really great chance at winning this thing. If she does, her essay stays up on the Wyzant website indefinitely so it will help promote the truth about Scientology. It also just seems like divine justice for an ex-scientology kid's kid to win a scholarship based on an essay on the truth about Scientology! :giggle:

If you are reading this and you have a chance to vote and/or share the voting link to whoever you can, it would be so appreciated. And I will update here as to if she wins.
Here is the link:

Scientology takes on journalism

Hi all.

Not quite sure why I signed up to this board, I'm not an ex scientologist but an ex christian (pentecost/word of faith church). Been out of that for a long time though but it did live me with scars on my soul. I've seen Going clear and read a lot of stuff about Scientology. One odd thing has happened. I am an introvert person and I don't find communication easy. I found myself drawn to the Scientology communication course, a starters course and it seems from what I read that's the one course people say they actually got something out of.

It's weird right. All I know about Scientology and still I think about possibly doing that one?

I guess the question is if anyone know something non cultish that have what people say they found useful from the Scn communication course?

Sorry if this seems like an odd post. It probably is. As I said I am bad att communicating with people and perhaps that is obvious. :nervous:

In their first joint appearance in Southern California, the great grandson of L. Ron Hubbard, Jamie DeWolf, and a former Scientologist, Chris Shelton, who has written a new book on Scientology, will share their insights and unique perspectives on the besieged organization. DeWolf is a performer, filmmaker, teaching artist and vaudevillian showman from Oakland, and Shelton was a member of the Sea Organization for 17 years who wrote Scientology from A to Xenu, which will be available for sale and signing.

Jamie DeWolf

DeWolf has written and performed about his relationship with Hubbard and other socially relevant subjects both on stage and on network TV. One of his more recent appearances in Los Angeles was as part of the PBS "Snap Judgment" story-telling performance tour at the Nokia Theater. An appearance by DeWolf has been in demand for some time due to his featured Upworthy.com appearances and his candid, outspoken perception of his controversial great-grandfather. He also has shot and directed award-winning short films.

Chris Shelton

Shelton began to build a life in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area only after breaking his billion-year employment contract with the church. He has chronicled his recovery from his 27 years in Scientology on his blog, The Critical Thinker at Large, and on his YouTube channel. Shelton, an author and videographer, was raised in a family of Scientologists and joined its staff right out of high school. Washington Post: Why erotic novel ‘Space Raptor Butt Invasion’ is up for the prestigious Hugo sci-fi award

http://ift.tt/1VDvMS6

* * * * * BEGIN EXCERPT * * * * *

What do “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the Netflix series “Jessica Jones” and British fantasy author Neil Gaiman have in common with a 4,100-word piece of erotica titled “Space Raptor Butt Invasion”?

They’re all up for a Hugo Award.

A Hugo Award, for the non-fan of genre fiction, is one of the highest accolades an author can receive for a work of fantasy or sci-fi. It’s a 61-year-old tradition named for Hugo Gernsback, who founded one of the first science fiction magazines in 1926. Past winners of the award include Arthur C. Clarke, J.K. Rowling and Ursula K. Le Guin.

The nominations this year, however, aren’t all such stalwarts of the science-fiction field. “It is, to say the least, a mixed bag. A lot of good books and stories, writers and artists… cheek by jowl with some stuff that is considerably less worthy,” Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin remarked on his blog on Tuesday.

For the second year in a row, the Hugo Awards have become a culture war flashpoint. The finalists, announced Tuesday, reflect the influence of a collection of conservative science fiction authors and their fans. Despite splintering into several cells, which go by names like Sad Puppies and Rabid Puppies, these groups have successfully gamed the nomination process.

Voting en bloc for a specific slate of names, the Puppies say, is their way to take back the Hugos. Brad Torgersen, a leader of the Sad Puppies faction, wrote on his blog in 2015 that “we’ve seen the Hugo voting skew ideological, as [the World Science Fiction Convention] and fandom alike have tended to use the Hugos as an affirmative action award.” In 2015 and again in 2016, the Sad Puppies pooled their collective votes to ensure that the works they supported made it onto the finalist ballot.

By the rules of the Hugo Awards, such collusion isn’t verboten, strictly speaking. Per a tradition that dates back some six decades, the sole requirement needed to nominate someone for a Hugo Award is a supporting membership to the World Science Fiction Convention, or Worldcon. (This cost $40 in 2015.) Because only about two thousand or so Worldcon members cast a nominating vote in a given year, according to the New Republic, a cohort of some 300 people can push specific authors to the forefront. Such collusion is not unprecedented, in fact — the Church of Scientology was able to secure L. Ron Hubbard on the 1987 list of finalists, though voters declined to give him an award.

Independent Scientology Orgs fucked up by not addressing Scientology Disconnection

Editorial: The First Independent Church of Scientology, Milestone Two and the Religious Liberty League fucked up by failing to address the Stop Scientology Disconnection billboard project.

Usually, I just cross-post news. Right now I'd like to make an observation. My observation is prompted by Dave Soroka's response to the Stop Scientology Disconnection billboard project.

http://ift.tt/1QdukB2

* * * * * BEGIN EXCERPT * * * * *

Dave Soroka 1 month ago

This is a great idea, but I think you'd get even more support if you directed the assault more at the Church than at Scientology itself. There's a lot of Independent Scientologists out here, myself included, who will take this billboard as an attack on Scientology, rather than on the suppressive use by the Church of a cancelled policy. I wonder if you might consider re-wording it to read "To my loved one in the Church of Scientology..."? Please consider this.

* * * * * END EXCERPT * * * * *

As you may have guessed, my opinion is that the First Independent Church of Scientology (FICS), Milestone Two (MS2) and the Religious Liberty League (RLL) fucked up by failing to address the Stop Scientology Disconnection billboard project.

That, even leaving aside considerations of mere Wog morality, and considering only public relations, the failure of FICS, MS2 and RLL to address the Stop Scientology Disconnection billboard project was and is moronically, imbecilically, and pathetically stupid.

This was the perfect opportunity for Independent Scientology FICS, MS2 and RLL to publicly and repeatedly say, "We are different. We, unlike the corrupt corporate Church of Scientology, do not practice disconnection, in fact oppose disconnection, and wish to reunite all disconnected families."

If the the members and supporters of Independent Scientology FICS, MS2 and RLL had a single brain cell between them, they would have supported the Stop Scientology Disconnection billboard project, while making it clear (and perhaps even garnering some agreement if not consensus) that the "Scientology" referred to on the billboard referred only to the corrupt corporate Church of Scientology, and not to their practice of Independent Scientology.

Instead, their silence was deafening.

Their failure, of course, was and is also a moral one -- albeit a moral failing common in the practice of Scientology: the placing of their particular Third (Group) Dynamic over all other considerations, all other concerns -- Scientology Third Dynamic Uber Alles. This is seen in Dave Soroka's pathetic whining that Independent Scientologists, himself included, would take the billboard as an attack on Scientology.

In closing I'll add that to date, and much to my initial surprise, neither Independent Scientology FICS, MS2 nor RLL have even addressed the coming book by Ron Miscavige, the father of corporate Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige, or the 2020 and other media coverage thereof. This despite the fact that Independent Scientology FICS, MS2 and RLL place all of the blame for all of the failings of Scientology solely on David Miscavige. Again, we see the, to put it most kindly, stupid and morally repugnant inability to express anything negative about any form, organization or conception of Scientology. Again, we see the Independent Scientology police of the Scientology Third Dynamic Uber Alles.

One might pity Independent Scientology FICS, MS2 and RLL in this regard if their silence in the face of evil was not so revolting.

Scientologist ordered to pay €5,000 damages for ‘vitriolic’ personal attack

Ray Managh

PUBLISHED 25/04/2016 | 21:51

Zabrina Collins was ordered by a judge today to pay €5,000 damages for a “vitriolic and personalised” attack on the character of a Co Mayo man who opposes the beliefs and teachings of the Church of Scientology of which she is a leading member.

Judge James O’Donohoe in the Circuit Civil Court said that allegations by her against Peter Griffiths of criminal activity, hate mongering and links to gay pornographic movies of teenage boys “were largely untrue and grossly defamatory.”

He stated that references in an e-mail from Collins to a Dublin headmaster, describing Griffiths as not being a fit person to engage with impressionable students, was “particularly distasteful” but had not gone far enough to brand him a paedophile either directly or by innuendo.

Judge O’Donohoe had heard that Collins had sent the email to the principal of St David’s CBS, Artane, Dublin, in May 2013 after she discovered a YouTube recording of a talk on “cults” by Mr Griffiths to a class of teenage boys at the school.
She had claimed his talk had centred on Scientology, which counts actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta among its members, and accused him of “openly and viciously” slandering the church. She had also accused him of being “an avid hate campaigner against Scientologists” and of “hate mongering” against the church.

In the email she included a picture of Griffiths that he had allowed to be taken of himself with his genitals covered only with a Guy Fawkes mask which Griffiths told the court had been in support of Prince Harry following a nude photo scandal by the third in line to the British throne in a Las Vegas Hotel in August 2012.

Judge O’Donohoe told Seamus O’Tuathail SC, counsel for Griffiths, of Cual Gara, Teeling Street, Ballina, that Ms Collins had sought to prove the truth of each and every allegation against his client despite the fact there had not been a specific pleading of such in the defence that had been personally drawn up by Collins.

Mr O’Tuathail, who appeared with barrister John Smith and solicitor Cormac O Ceallaigh, had told the court Mr Griffiths was seeking €50,000 damages against Ms Collins.

The judge said today, in a reserved judgment, that the claim of qualified privilege regarding Ms Collins’s remarks could not extend to protect such “a vile attack” on Mr Griffiths’ good name. There had been a good deal of history and animus between the parties which had accounted for the tone of the email which he described as “malicious in the extreme.”

He said publication of the defamatory remarks had not been extensive and had been directed to the school principal. Mr Griffiths almost immediately uploaded the material to the internet which had a much wider audience, thereby moderating the level of damages due to him.

To be fair and balanced, the following also occurred:

* * * * * BEGIN EXCERPT * * * * *

Judge O’Donohoe also gave judgment in a second case in which Collins, a chiropractor, of The Boulevard, Mount Eustace, Tyrelstown, Dublin 15, and Scientologist Michael O’Donell, a marketing consultant of Cherrywood Lawn, Clondalkin, Dublin, sued Griffiths and also embalmer John McGhee, of Armstrong Grove, Clara, Co Offaly, for assault and battery.

The judge said Mr McGhee had followed Ms Collins and Mr O’Donnell in Dublin as they distributed leaflets against drug taking. From a video he had seen it was very clear to him that Mr McGhee had certainly been guilty of assault. His harassing of her and the grabbing by him of leaflets constituted battery.

Judge O’Donohoe told barrister Frank Beatty, counsel for Ms Collins, that his client could be heard letting out a “shrill shriek” on the video which indicated to the court that she was apprehensive of a battering from Mr McGhee who did not turn up in court today to hear the judgment.

The judge awarded Ms Collins and Mr O’Donnell a total of €3,500 against McGhee for assault and battery. Mr Griffiths, he said, had played a lesser role by videoing the assault but had consorted with Mr McGhee and for harassment and assault he awarded Collins and O’Donnell €2,000 damages against Griffiths.

Dianetics first bait and switch

The engram presented by Hubbard was a cellular biological recording
later after being sued for practicing medicine he switched to a mental image
having nothing to do with biology.

The entire subject of both Dianetics and Scientology hinges on
the "engram" without it there is no reactive mind.

Hence there is no Clear, hence there is no SP or Bt's or incidents.

Everything in Hubbards so called science and so called philosophy is
spun from this one single idea "Engram"

If you don't buy the engram theory none of the rest of it can be possible
it is the small loose thread that unravels the entire suit.

What do you do if you want to make a documentary about the infamous Church of Scientology and they’re not willing to talk? If you’re Louis Theroux and director John Dowler, you take matters into your own hands by producing a film about the organization, using church-produced videos as bountiful source material. Inspired by the church’s own filming techniques, Theroux teams up with former senior church official Marty Rathburn to recreate scenes of violent events allegedly witnessed by Rathburn and others, casting young actors to bring them to life. Unsurprisingly, the church catches wind and puts the team under surveillance, resulting in bizarrely disquieting encounters between dueling production crews. Rich in both humour and pathos, in My Scientology Movie Theroux and company expertly peel back layers of paranoia and aggression to reveal a secretive organization on the defensive, definitively demonstrating that truth really is stranger than fiction.

Lisa Marie is using her media savvy and connections with other celebrities and other important figures inside Scientology to release explosive revelations about Miscavige, while keeping her own role quiet. Nearly a billion people subsist today on $1.90 or less a day and 1.2 billion people live without access to electricity—nearly all of them in developing countries. The barrier to accomplishing universal access to electricity is purported to be finance, with the World Bank estimating it will take between $40 billion and $100 billion annually to achieve that goal. But energy pioneer Dr. Richard Komp stated otherwise in his presentation hosted by the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office in Washington, D.C., titled Empowering People to Power Africa.

Scn perfect recall vs. false memories

I came across an interesting and fascinating article highlighting a forensic psychologist and professor who has studied the fallibility of memories.

"...her groundbreaking studies of false memories, involving thousands of subjects, drive home the point that human memory is unreliable at best, and malleable enough to wreck the lives of the unjustly accused."

This article is in such contrast to the acclaimed idea in Scn of perfect recall of date, time, and place, sometimes in past lifetimes.
Personally, since my recall is good on some things but not others, even when I was getting auditing, I don't and never did believe in the Scn recall stuff.

What is Scientology's closest relative ?

I used to think it was Mormonism but after reading this article I would
have to say Islam is the kissing cousin by far a closer relationship.

Here's small taste of the article with my view of the connection to Scientology in red.

Standard Tech
1. A standardized version of the memeplex is written down, which makes for perfect replication fidelity. This is something basic to several religions and isn't an Islamic invention, but it is an important factor in the success of Islam.

Something only transmitted orally can change over time, but something written will be identical a thousand years from now, and with modern printing presses, can be reproduced in the millions, giving it enormous fecundity and fidelity.
KSW
2. The Koran includes instructions for its own spread. It tells believers they must spread Islam. It is their holy duty to bring Mohammad's warnings and Islamic law to every corner of the world.

Safe Guarding Technology
3. The memeplex includes instructions for its own preservation, protection, and replication fidelity. The Koran, the most important of the Islamic holy books, directly tells its followers that they can never change or modify or "modernize" any of the teachings within the memeplex. It is a capital sin to try to do so. The memeplex ensures its own preservation this way.

These first three memes are pretty standard for several successful religions. But now it gets interesting...

So if you gotta mind to here's the full article

Two lives caught up in Scientology’s notorious ‘Fair Game'

A large 3 page fact and photo filled article by Tony Ortega, a must read:

Spying, intimidation, and ruin: Two lives caught up in Scientology’s notorious ‘Fair Game’
Quote:

Now, we have another opportunity to see and understand Scientology’s “Fair Game” with new clarity. And that’s because the man who investigated and harassed and tried to intimidate a Canadian man named Gregg Hagglund on behalf of the Church of Scientology has given up his secrets about those operations.

And that’s because he died.

His name is Peter Ramsay, and for many years he was a volunteer for Scientology’s Office of Special Affairs who took very seriously his role as a spy and dirty tricks operative, which is spelled out in detail in his personal papers. Ramsay died on April 26, 2013, and we’ve mentioned him a couple of times here at the Bunker. His son, Jonathan, who was never a Scientologist, has tried to get the church to return money to him that his father had on account and will never use. Helping him with that is Peter’s brother, Rob, who reached out to us with questions about Scientology.
Then, in December, Rob Ramsay did a remarkable thing. He sent a message to Scientology attorney Gary Soter, offering to return to the church all of his brother Peter’s personal papers, including sensitive documents that showed years of Peter Ramsay’s spying on Gregg Hagglund.

Soter didn’t respond.

So, instead, Rob turned over those documents to us. And now, after interviewing Hagglund and Rob Ramsay and others, and going through Peter Ramsay’s personal papers, we’ve been able to piece together this examination of a Scientology Fair Game operation from both sides.

Tel Aviv Scientology center accused of slavery

La Scientologie de Tel-Aviv accusée d’esclavagisme!

Tel Aviv Scientology center accused of slavery

By Lola Perez
JSSNews
April 18, 2016

The Scientology cult (called church of Scientology in Israel) is suspected and accused of slavery by at least one former church member who disseminated propaganda for the cult.

Though the church is located in a magnificent historic building that cost millions to fully renovate (with support from Tel Aviv City Hall), residents and passers-by are nevertheless worried.

"As soon as I get off the bus, people from this cult start talking to me or my children to get us interested in their faith," says Kristell R., a local resident for whom the closest bus stop to her home is right outside the cult’s front door.

However, the issue that concerns Scientology today is an accusation of having employed a church member more than full-time (7 days a week, between 5 and 7 hours a day) for a monthly salary that varied between 50 euros and 150 euros.

The slave joined the cult in 2006 and began working for it in 2010.

"Inside the church, everything is regulated like clockwork. We have no right to our own opinions, we must agree with those of the church leaders in Israel and the United States. We have to obey and be loyal. We must be discreet, " says the victim. "Otherwise, sinners are punished. "

What action will be taken by the Israeli justice system, which seems to be partially infiltrated by Scientology? The answer will be known in a few weeks ...

What would happen if it just stopped?

If sometime next week, the federal government went over to all of Scientology and said,

"Ok guys. This is getting ridiculous. We've been meaning to get around to doing this for a while, but we've just been way too busy. Honestly, we'd hoped this whole thing would just sort itself out, but at some point you have to say enough is enough and just work on a Saturday. We're officially breaking up Scientology.
David Miscavige is going to prison.
:dancer: That much is obvious.

We'll do a quick investigation to see if Tom Cruise is going to prison too, but in the meantime, the rest of you should probably know that this whole thing was a sinister cult. We know you don't believe us, but that's just because you've been brainwashed. You'll figure it out. None of you are going to prison on the condition that all of you cut this shit out. It's over. Some of you may think this is a drag... but it's seriously not that bad. Imagine having to work on a Saturday. Anyway, all of you are free to go. Think of this as making it all the way up the bridge.
You can keep reading those little books and pamphlets on your own if you want, but there are seriously a lot of books and pamphlets out there and we encourage you to try some other ones. We've made library cards for all of you.

We've found all of you jobs and places to stay and we'll send you money till you're back on your feet. Email us if you have any questions. Mission Accomplished."

Would anyone just snap out of it? Would most take a couple months? If confronted with reality, would everyone eventually go, "Wow. I guess it actually was a cult" or would there be some people who would just read LRH alone in their bedroom every night and just keep sitting on the e-meter, taking turns auditing each other until the end of time?
What would happen if it just stopped?

- The cult Caleb was in is called Sistemics, which owns the patent to podcasts (wait, that's not Squarespace?). It's also basically Scientology, and Caleb's BFF Ross Edwards is basically Shelly Miscavige. Caleb crafted his Mark Raymond persona to infiltrate the Church to rescue Ross, who hasn't been heard from since he tried to leave after Caleb's defection. But now there is a new head of the Church, Dan Berlin, who knows what Caleb looks like, so his guise won't work. Olsen (Jay Armstrong Johnson), weirdly, is way into helping Caleb and volunteers as tribute. He's perfect for it, you see, because he can mimic people. That's why he keeps everyone's photos taped to his underwear drawer, and he Xs out the ones he can mimic. Nope, not creepy at all! But Caleb has Olsen right where he wants him: He later tells Clayton over the phone that the "operation hit a snag, but I solved it. Dad, he's perfect." Perfect for what? Is Olsen the Katie Holmes to the Sistemics' Tom Cruise?!

The third annual Southern California interfaithless start-of-summer get-together will be held on Saturday, May 21st at Bolsa Chica State Beach.

Mark your calendars! Everything starts at 3:00pm. After hanging out our fellow ex's and enjoying the beach, the BBQ ribs (that's right, ya'll get ribs) will be ready around 6:00pm. Stay as long as you'd like and enjoy the fire. The beach closes at 10:00pm when the lifeguard trucks come by telling us to leave.

Note: this beach does not allow alcohol or pets.

In the past, this event has attracted ex-mormons, ex-jw's, ex-orthodox jews, ex-muslims, ex-scientologists, ex-adventists. Mingling with our counterparts from other backgrounds is, for lack of a better word, heavenly.

Parking at the beach is $15. Bring some food to share if you'd like, or just bring yourself. The man planning the event and smoking the ribs (me) accepts tips, but it's not mandatory. Don't not come if that's an issue.

You must RSVP for this event by leaving a comment or sending me a PM. To those who RSVP, I will let you know the exact spot on the beach closer to the event. If you don't RSVP, you'll be lost on a 3 mile beach trying to find us.

Scientology Doesn't Have Processes to Help You

Scientology's biggest lie, the one that gets all the innocent, naive Newbs in:

'Scientology can help you with that.'

It starts with the OCA test. Find what's bugging a person and boldly lie to them and tell them scientology can help them with:

- Family relationship problems,
- Drug and alcohol addictions,
- Depression,
- Getting a job,
- Raising children,
- Medical problems,
- Running a business,
- Learning and education,
- etc.

But scientology never gets around to helping a person with their troubles. Never.

Instead of resolving family conflicts, it encourages disconnection and claims the problem is your family, not you.

Instead of dealing with actual drug addiction and resolving it, it diverts a person to the 'evils of the medical and psychiatric professions' and uses a hokey scam as 'drug therapy.'

Instead of helping others raise children, it tells them to send kids to scientology classes.

Instead of helping with medical troubles, it diverts people away from doctors with ridiculous claims of cures.

Instead of assisting in getting kids to and through college successfully, it claims it has all the knowledge, they don't need real education and steals the college funds.

I've done two drug rundowns because they were required, not because I needed or wanted them. But the C/S said so. L Ron said so. :wtf: I was already done experimenting with drugs before scientology. It did nothing.

I've done countless list repairs, L1Cs, Green Forms, etc. 10 Augs, PTS RD. Nobody ever addressed my family relationships. Not in 9 years, despite the fact I kept bringing it up. Why? Because that's all the 'tek' scientology had. Fixing relationships or getting better at them wasn't part of it. :wtf:

I've done objectives. Horrible experience. Nothing I wanted or asked to do. It had nothing to do with my troubles. L Ron said these are done first though. :wtf:

Communication? There's a joke. I got more out of a college speech class than I ever got out of any study of ARC, Comm course, etc.

I did ARC SW. It was fun. It didn't do anything for my memory, which was already outstanding. It was required, per L Ron. It didn't fix anything in my life, either. So onto the next??? :wtf:

I completed Clear and through OT 4. Really stupid stuff. Again, required. One goes up the Bridge, one doesn't address actual problems or individual situations. It's always 'on the next level.'

I studied the entire OEC and Esto Series as an official class. Nope, nothing in there that was helpful, either, except a few extra sales tactics. Making grandiose claims to sell things for outrageous amounts of money and then switching what you sold was the one thing scientology teaches very well. All scientologists know how to do this.

Nine years later, I was out of the SO and scientology so I just read the rest of the OT levels online out of curiosity one day. Nope. Nothing on those that would address or resolve anything IRL, either. The tek was empty of usefulness. Scientology never addressed anything in any way that would resolve or help me in life.

OT abilities? Any other increased abilities? All lies. Scientologists love to feed delusions to each other.

ONLY when I left scientology did I successfully:
- resolve family problems and restore relations,
- get a great college education,
- earn excellent money,
- raise a family.

Scientology does NOT help anyone with anything except lying proficiently.

School District Allows Scholarships from Scientology but not from Atheists

By Mike Heuer, Courthouse News Service

LOS ANGELES (CN) — A school district in California's high desert refused to include scholarship offers from atheist groups in the lists they distribute to students, the groups claim in court.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation and the Antelope Valley Freethinkers sued Antelope Valley Union School Board and its High School District on constitutional grounds Tuesday in Federal Court.

California's high desert, inland from greater Los Angeles, is a conservative area with many military and retired military personnel.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation annually offers $17,950 in college scholarships, and the Antelope Valley Freethinkers offered $1,750 in scholarships to three winners.

Both groups asked applicants to submit an essay on the challenges of being a "nonbeliever" or "freethinker."

Both say the school district and Palmdale High School refused to make their scholarship announcements available to students, though the district did announce other scholarship offers that "solicited religious speech, required applicants to be religious, and dealt with the historically controversial topics of homosexuality and guns."

But the school district "censored plaintiffs' speech because their message is nonreligious, critical of religion, and controversial. This unequal treatment amounts to viewpoint discrimination and violates the First Amendment," they say in the complaint.

Freethinkers president David Dionne, a plaintiff, says in the lawsuit that Deputy Superintendent Jeff Foster told him that "he couldn't approve the scholarship the way it was worded because it would upset some parents. In particular, he cited the following sentence as particularly objectionable: 'Perhaps you've been ridiculed, harassed, or punished for speaking up against religion in the classroom, at school events, in government, or within your family.'"

When Dionne offered to rewrite his announcement, he says, Foster told him: "We simply do not have the time to 'word smith' language that might be acceptable to the district and yet meet the intent of your organization."

The plaintiffs say the school board has no compelling interest and no rational basis for refusing to list the scholarships, nor does the denial serve any "legitimate government interest."

The refusal suppresses speech and denies equal access to the school's scholarship distribution system, according to the complaint.

The high school does, however, announce a scholarship named after L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, according to the complaint.

"The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" Spoofs "The Church of Cosmetology!"

I started binge-watching the new season of "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" on Netflix this weekend (for those of you who haven't seen it, the show is hilarious!) and low and behold, one of their episodes features a spoof of the fictional "Church of Cosmetology!" Who could the real life inspiration be for this fictional Church? Hmmm, let's see, The Church has an esteemed "Founder" who is a former "make-up artist" (LOL!) who bears an uncanny resemblance to a certain David Miscavige and they have access to life altering technology that's (I'm paraphrasing here) "too cool for your parents to understand."

Best of all, they even have their own cruise ship!!!

Ahhh, Scientology, you can always count on to provide delicious comedic fodder . . .

Scientology rips apart families with its ‘disconnection’ policy — but why?

An interesting article from The Undergound Bunker on the subject that is my constant companion.

Scientology rips apart families with its ‘disconnection’ policy — but why?

Quote:

Hubbard feared PTS Scientologists because they were capable of suppressive acts. In 1965 he wrote: “Until the environment is handled, nothing beneficial can happen. Quite the contrary. In the most flagrant of such cases, the Scientologist’s case worsened and the suppressive person or group sent endless distorted or false reports to press, police, authorities and the public in general.”

We now begin to zero in on Hubbard’s real fear and that of his Church: The PTS Scientologist is likely to tell an “SP” what is really going on inside the organization, which then can get out to the press and the public. Hubbard additionally makes it a “high crime” for any Scientologist to report the church to police or the courts.

Something that is not often discussed is that beyond the immediate disconnection of a scientologist from the “SP” is the misinformation and manipulation used on extended families. The “SP” becomes Fair Game within that family, mostly as a way to explain the disconnection. The scientologist will use anything they can, whatever they know of past issues the “SP” may have had to stir up bad feeling against them. There is no recourse, because it’s all done secretly with the appropriate smiles and ‘empathy’ towards a family member who had ever AT ANY TIME had a personal problem with that “SP”. You suddenly find that family members just fade away out of contact for no apparent reason, or worse still do things like block your email or Facebook or even rage at you for something that has no basis in reality. It is shocking and truly evil.

I refused to stop posting about scientology. I know I'm not alone in this, let's revisit some stories on this subject.

Garcias back in court in fraud lawsuit after Scientology makes arbitration impossible

Tony Ortega: Garcias back in court in federal fraud lawsuit after Scientology makes arbitration impossible, they say.

http://ift.tt/1NbrA9a

* * * * * BEGIN EXCERPT * * * * *

Luis and Rocio Garcia filed a new motion in their lawsuit yesterday, asking federal district Judge James D. Whittemore to lift the stay in their case and allow them to get on with suing the Church of Scientology. We have the document for you and its set of exhibits.

Last August, the Garcias lost an appeal in the case and then had to face the music: If they were going to get their money back from Scientology, they would have to submit themselves to Scientology’s internal arbitration procedures.

The Garcias first filed their federal fraud lawsuit in January 2013, alleging that the church had deceived them in order to obtain donations, including $340,000 towards the construction of the Flag Building in Clearwater, Florida, also known as the Super Power Building. The Garcias had been longtime Scientologists and frequent donors, and Scientology argued that they had signed multiple contracts which required them to submit disputes to the organization’s internal arbitration system. The Garcias argued, however, that the contracts were a sham. There were no internal arbitration rules, they said, and an arbitration had never been performed in the history of the church — all of which the church admitted in court was true.

Nevertheless, Judge Whittemore sided with Scientology, and put a stay on the lawsuit until the Garcias submitted themselves to the arbitration scheme. Which, we point out again, didn’t actually exist.

Now, nearly a year after Whittemore made that decision, the Garcias have come back to his courtroom in a new filing, describing the frustration they experienced as they attempted to work with Scientology’s “International Justice Chief,” Mike Ellis, to choose a panel of arbitrators and found themselves stymied at every turn.
