ESCAPE" TRAILER RELEASED: BREAKING FREE OF SCIENTOLOGY

In light of Ron Miscavige's "Ruthless" exposé and impending tell-all interview on ABC 20/20 TONIGHT, RM Productions and Truth Told Productions bring you the trailer for their new short film, "Escape."

Based on the acclaimed memoir "Blown for Good: Behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology," "Escape" adapts the true-life story of former Sea Org members Marc and Claire Headley as they struggle to free themselves from the hands of Scientology.

Current students at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, filmmakers Karla Zamudio and Rachael Meyers say this piece was born thru a class assignment. Every year, each student in the advanced class must make a short film with one condition: it must be about real people in real situations.

Meyers remarks, "The condition means to keep the films grounded in hearty storytelling rather than flying off into GlibLand. Nowhere did it say it had to be an adaptation of someone's life. But when Karla came to me with this story, I couldn't resist running with it."

But it's more than just a good story. Co-Writer (adaptation) and Producer of the film, Karla Zamudio has a personal connection:

"I left Scientology, because it became overbearing and interfered with my personal life, career, and spiritual growth. It had become more about profit and recruiting new members than helping me. When I learned that several of my personal friends who previously worked for Scientology had been mentally and physically abused by the organization and wrote a book about it, I immediately felt compelled to tell their story."

According to his memoir, Marc Headley and his wife Claire spent 15 years inside the Sea Org's International Headquarters, garnering physical and emotional abuse. Only in 2006 with the help of the police and his father was he able to finally escape and later, get his wife out too.

Zamudio recounts her time inside the walls: "I had the privilege of working with Marc a few times at the heavily guarded Scientology compound in Hemet, CA and I can attest to some of the facts he shares in his book. Marc and Claire Headleys' brave story demonstrates how courageous and determined the human spirit thrives under challenging situations."

Meyers: "The Headleys have been so generous in granting permission to their story for this short film. It's an incredibly brave journey. Having the privilege to portray it has definitely given me a new perspective on what stories can be told versus what stories should be told."

Writer/Director/Producer Rachael Meyers founded RM Productions in 2011. Through various projects, she has had the pleasure of working with talent such as Gina Hecht ("Seinfeld"), Rob Brownstein ("Argo"), Elisa Gabrielli ("Madagascar"), and James Kyson ("Heroes"). Her films have garnered awards at festivals across the country, including Best Direction.http://ift.tt/24repFR

Writer/Producer/Actress Karla Zamudio is a former member of the self-proclaimed organized religion, having escaped in 2008. In 2014, she founded her own production company Truth Told Productions: a company focused on telling stories inspired by real life events with characters who thrive under challenging situations. A native of Los Angeles, she is known for roles on shows such as "Southland," "Mistresses," "ER", "The Shield," and "Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment," among others.www.karlazamudio.com

Starring Bryan McKinley, Alexandra Bayless and Mark Gadbois, "Escape" is currently in the festival submissions process.
