Why I oppose Scientology

There is a gu-laxy of reasons for objecting to the behavior of Scientology and even its very existence; all of them quite valid.

The lies and false promises, the criminality and intimidation; the financial ruination and the shattered families that abound...

but for me there is one thing in particular that, at its core, exemplifies the enduring wickedness of Scientology.

Make no mistake.

Scientology is wicked.

In a word, it is corruption; by which I mean the profound corruption of the spirit that gradually takes shape...

of the goodness and trust, and innocence and idealistic decency that were among the very best qualities of our youth.

It is a corruption of thought that first appears to us clothed in virtue,

but once the seduction is over, it reveals itself for what it truly is.

The people one first meets in Scientology are among the nicest and brightest that anyone could wish to know.

They, and you, are genuinely idealistic and totally unaware of the execrable future that awaits.

What begins as a quest for "truth" becomes a fearful apprehension and a singular desire to avoid torment...

leaving a nagging feeling in the pit of your stomach that something is dreadfully wrong; that the years and the dollars have been for naught

Some things in life are exactly what they seem to be.

Some not.

The trick is being able to tell one from the other.

Scientology takes what is best in the individual, and bends and shapes it to it's own purpose, corrupting it.

This corruption of innocence; of decency and idealism, and ultimately goodness itself, in service to "the greatest good"...

this corruption cannot; must not, be forgiven...or forgotten.

I know what I know. I know what I have seen.

That is why I oppose Scientology.
